Why this specific length?

This exact length is the industry standard for building traditional 8-foot ceilings.

When you frame a wall, you place horizontal framing members (plates) at the top and bottom of the vertical studs. A standard wall layout uses:

• One bottom plate (1.5 inches thick)

• Two top plates (3 inches total thickness)

When you add the 92-5/8 inch stud to these three plates (totaling 4.5 inches), the total height of the wall frame becomes exactly 97-1/8 inches.
